Editorial Standards
How we choose, research, write and correct what we publish.
Sourcing
We build articles on primary sources wherever they exist: Federal Reserve statements, U.S. Treasury and agency data, court and regulatory filings, company announcements and named research reports. Each article lists its sources, with links, at the end. When we rely on another news organization's reporting, we credit and link to it.
We do not publish unattributed statistics. If we cannot trace a figure to a source, we leave it out.
News and analysis
News articles report what happened. Articles that also interpret the facts, such as explaining what a rate change could mean for lenders, are labeled Analysis at the top. Nothing we publish is financial, legal or investment advice.
Use of AI
Capital Finance Bureau uses AI tools to monitor sources, research, write and publish articles. Facts, figures and quotes are checked against the original sources before publication. Articles are published without a person reviewing them first; we recheck recent articles against their sources and correct errors promptly. Bylines read "Capital Finance Bureau Staff" because each article is the product of that process.
Independence from advertisers and affiliates
Editorial decisions are not for sale. Sponsored or partner content, if we publish any, will be labeled as such at the top of the article and kept separate from news and research coverage. Links we are paid for are marked as sponsored.
Corrections
We correct errors promptly and transparently. See our corrections policy.
