What else is on the Fed calendar this week?
Monday, Oct. 12, was Columbus Day. The Fed said the daily and weekly statistical releases scheduled for that day would come out on Tuesday, Oct. 13. The Beige Book, the Fed's summary of regional business conditions, is due at 2 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Oct. 14. Industrial production for September (G.17) follows at 9:15 a.m. ET on Friday, Oct. 16.
When is CPI this week?
The September Consumer Price Index is due at 8:30 a.m. ET on Wednesday, Oct. 14, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics schedule. Producer prices follow at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15, and import and export prices at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 16.
In August, the CPI rose 0.4% on a seasonally adjusted basis and 3.4% from a year earlier, the BLS said. Prices excluding food and energy rose 0.3% on the month and 2.4% over the year, down from 2.5% in July. Our September CPI preview has the full breakdown and where Treasury yields stood going in.
Why do Fed speakers matter before the Oct. 28 decision?
Officials use speeches and interviews to explain how new data change their view. The FOMC raised its target range to 3.75% to 4% on Sept. 16, and minutes released Oct. 7 said most participants saw another increase as likely appropriate by year-end. Waller's most recent speech, given Oct. 8 in Istanbul, was titled "The Signaling Value of the Summary of Economic Projections," according to the Fed; our report on Waller's case for more rate hikes covers his recent views.
The next decision is due at 2 p.m. ET on Oct. 28. Every date and past decision is on our FOMC meeting schedule for 2026 and 2027, and our Fed calendar guide explains how each release moves rates.
This calendar is based on the Fed Board's schedule as of Oct. 13. Events can be added or changed; check federalreserve.gov for updates.
Correction, Oct. 13: The Fed's calendar lists the topic of Bowman's Oct. 14 evening speech at the Bangkok Economic Festival as supervision and regulation. An earlier version said the topic was to be announced.
